Meet the Maker – Ros Ritchie Wines

ros ritchie wines in mansfield

Welcome to our “Meet the Maker” series where we ask some of our regular stallholders about their business.  Farmers’ markets are a great place to meet the person behind the product as there is an opportunity for a chat as you fill your market basket.

Today we are going to have a chat to the people who create the wines at Ros Ritchie Wines – Ros Ritchie and John Adams.

 1. Tell us a little about the story behind your product?

Ros Ritchie Wines sells the wines which we are proud to say are all made from locally produced grapes, grown by people committed to the best, delicious, intensely flavoured and quality fruit from their vineyards. We work with them to ensure we are able to select fruit suited to the styles of wine we wish to make  and carefully make the wine.

2. Where is your farm located?

15 minutes northwest of Mansfield amidst fertile farmland, along the Broken River Valley with beautiful views of the Great Dividing Range.

3. What is your favourite way to enjoy your product?

Enjoyment of our wine is always best with friends, whether it be at spring / summer long lunches with our sparkling and cool aromatic whites or during cosy autumn /winter dinners with our full-flavoured and savoury reds.

4. Market day is usually very social – not just at your stall as people try your wines, but also catching up with friends and other stallholders.  Do you have some “must haves” that you always try and drop into your market basket?

    • Love the Locheilan cheeses, anytime;
    • the Long Lane Capers for my fish dishes, gravlax, and making tartar sauce;
    • the preserves of Jillicious for both my table and for presents;
    • the sourdough and rye breads from Boonderoo Farm;
    • King Valley Walnuts in autumn/winter for making baked quinces and serving with the cheese and bread;
    • the fresh beetroots from Verducci Produce which I use for both my Italian beet salad and roasted beet/ red onion dish;
    • the beautiful plant pots from Tolmie Plants, which always DO well and grow vigorously in our garden.

Ros and John would like to invite you to join them for their annual Bush Picnic on Sunday 30th October.  More details can be found here but it is a lovely opportunity to try some new release wines, enjoy a delicious picnic against the backdrop of a stunning vineyard setting.
