Meet the Maker – Jillicious

Meet the Maker – Jillicious

Welcome to our “Meet the Maker” series where we ask some of our regular stallholders about their business.  Farmers’ markets are a great place to meet the person behind the product as there is an opportunity for a chat as you fill your market basket.

This week we say hello to the face behind JilliciousJill O’Halloran.

Tell us a little about what your business.

I trained as a chef & have worked in many catering establishments in Germany, UK & Australia. I came to Mansfield in 1986 and moved to Athlone Farm which is on the Broken River, Mansfield in 1991. I have always loved to be creative and have been making preserves for over 23 years now since living on the farm from our home-grown vegetables & fruit. My friends & family were always treated to jars of my preserves & always said “why don’t you make them to sell?” So I have.

Jillicious started trading in June 2014. My husband & I grow most of my own produce; friends give me their surplus produce or I source them locally.

What sorts of products do you sell at the market?

I make over 14 different products including a range of Quince products such as quince paste and Jelly. My wares have many uses in your kitchen such as with cheeses, cold meats, spooned over poached eggs, in with burger mixtures and many many more. There is only limited stock on certain products due to using seasonal produce.

If you purchase my products I would love for you to let me know what you think. Currently I am trading at the Mansfield farmers market every 4th Saturday of the month and also at the Mansfield Bush Markets on the long weekends during the year. I also bake fresh goodies for the market every month. From English Bakewell tarts to decadent Brownie. If you can’t make it to a market (and you live locally) I am happy to deliver.

When you come to the Mansfield Farmers’ Market, do you have a favourite “must have” for your market basket?

When I am at the farmers’ market I like to indulge in a pumpkin gozleme, with some of my delicious Tamatar Kasundi and then to sample some Maindample fudge. Yum!

Thanks Jill!  Make sure that you catch up with Jillicious at our next market – but don’t be late.  Our favourites (the Apple and Cinnamon Bundt cakes) never last very long!
